' Gem ' because of the materials used and ' Mardi ' because it so happened to be Tuesday when I made the promise to myself that I will follow the prompting of my heart (I was also learning French at that time). Hence ' Gemmardi ', to share the wisdom of stones and the importance of the inner self.
This body of work revolves around the use of wires to make jewellery. The stones themselves dictate how they would like to be set. Materials used are polished stones, natural crystals, 14 karat gold-filled wires (gold bonded onto brass) as well as 925 sterling silver.
Stones are wrapped and given a self developed bezel-pronged setting. Necklaces are individually strung and linked together by techniques used since the time of ancient Egypt.
The process of creation is a meditation in itself and my intention is that the wearer carry a jewel of peace with them, everywhere they go. For their good and the good of all those around.
